Sughra Hussainy is a visual artist specializing in painting and trained in traditional Afghan techniques. She also uses contemporary subject matter, bringing to light the situation of women based on her lived experience in Kabul, Afghanistan. She wants her audience to see women as human and not as objects.  She also focuses on using traditional methods by making her own paper, pigments, and brushes made from cat hair. Even as her art is influenced by her Afghan culture, Hussainy wants to use her artistic skills to show the other side Afghanistan, the beautiful side of a culture and tradition that lies under the rubble of endless war.
