Hossein Khandan


Hossein Khandan is a global citizen and an award winning Iranian-American writer/director with more than forty years experience. 
So far he has had nine solo photo exhibitions In Beijing, Ningbo, Tianjin, Dubai, Chicago and San Fransisco.
He also taught creative photography and film-making at international schools and the Ningbo Polytechnic University in China.



He was introduced to making 8mm films at a local library’s workshop in Tehran, in 1979. Soon after, he was chosen as an assistant director with many acclaimed Iranian directors such as Kianoush Ayari and Daruish Mehrjui. He was also the president of Iranian Assistant Director’s Guild for two years in a row before moving to America in 1994. In the United States, he has made several documentaries  and short films which were shown at several International film festivals.



In 2006, he and his family moved to China where he was teaching filmmaking and photography. His short documentary “Silky Eloquence” which was made in China received a 2nd place award and cash prize at the Farhang Foundation Film Festival.  He and his family have now moved back to the Chicago.


 

His latest feature film “Waiting for Kiarostami” received the Best Director Award and the Best Feature Film Award from the Five Continents International Film Festival.
Recently, he has published his first story for children titled; “My Best Gift” on Amazon platform.
